Earthquakes, cyclones, floods, droughts, fires and disaster mapping, as the issuing authorities report them.
USGS earthquakes with their PAGER impact alert, GDACS multi-hazard alerts, NOAA National Hurricane Center storms, Copernicus EMS rapid-mapping activations and NASA FIRMS satellite fire detections, collected every hour.
Alerts above the bottom rung
PAGER yellow or worse, and GDACS orange or red. Both are model estimates of impact, issued within minutes and revised as reports arrive. A GDACS alert is the highest the event has reached.
Largest earthquakes, past 7 days
Tropical cyclones, past 14 days
GDACS covers every ocean basin; the National Hurricane Center covers the Atlantic and eastern Pacific.
Copernicus EMS activations
An authority asked the EU to map a disaster from satellite imagery. Open activations, and any from the last 60 days.
GDACS alerts by hazard, past 14 days
Green earthquakes are left to USGS, and green wildfires (hundreds a fortnight) are not collected.
Fire and heat detections by country, past 24 hours
VIIRS on NOAA-20, NOAA-21 and Suomi-NPP, nominal and high confidence. These are detections, not fires: a fire is counted again on each overpass, and gas flares, volcanoes and industrial heat sources are detected too. Each half-degree cell is counted to the country at its centre of detections. Radiative power (fire radiative power, in megawatts) is a rough measure of how much is burning.
